Following an Outer Path Cannot Guarantee Salvation
In this post I will address a subject that concerns many people in this world who believe they will be saved if they follow the commandments of the church or the rules of some guru, and why following an outer path cannot guarantee salvation.
The Outer Path and the Inner Path
I have already written that most people on earth, in a distant past, chose not to make decisions and let the outer self and other outer ‘authorities’ make decisions for them.
In this article I’m going to explain why mainstream religions and all other spiritual organisations that rely on giving people an external path cannot lead anyone to salvation. I know this may come as a shock to many, but it is the truth.
But what is an ‘outer path’? It is a way that focuses on following a set of rules or precepts in everyday life, as a moral system of behaviour. It is ‘external’ because people don’t have to change their own identity, they don’t have to transform themselves, they just have to follow these rules.
Some philosophers have looked at the hypocrisy that is so often hidden in this process. But even when there is no hypocrisy, it is very common for people to follow the rules simply out of fear: fear of going to hell, which is one of the most common.
This outer path doesn’t require people to change their psychology or even what some call ‘their heart’, they don’t change themselves, but just by following the rules they get a guarantee of salvation.
This is nothing but a gigantic illusion, a lie used by those who are not willing to change themselves in order to appease their conscience, because in reality they do not want to change or transform their sense of identity. They should know that this is only a false path that cannot guarantee salvation.
We find this mentality of giving something in exchange for something else, typical of commercial activity, in many of the practices of the main religions: be it the ‘offering’ of candles, sacrifices, promises or even money (to the religious institution) in exchange for obtaining some blessing granted by God or one of His representatives, saints, etc.
It is the mentality of thinking that it is a huge hassle and inconvenience to change ourselves in order to grow spiritually in consciousness and we replace that with something material and tangible that we prefer and give more importance to.
In reality, this is the only relationship the material ego can have with spirituality, which it cannot really grasp or experience. Just look at how most religions – especially the one called ‘Christian’ in the Western world – have always had an inseparable relationship with circles of power over the centuries and have often served to legitimise that power, always involved in the search for privileges ‘of this world’ and not spirituality.
In this way, we must overcome the external identity of the ego and separate ourselves from it, assuming our spiritual identity, to grow spiritually.
I am not arguing that we should withdraw from the affairs of the world and isolate ourselves in some monastery or ashram, today we are entering the Era of Community, in which spiritual life must manifest itself in daily tasks, in relationships with others, at work and in society in general.
We don’t need to move away from the world physically in order to grow spiritually. What we need is to separate ourselves mentally from the self, created on earth, the ego, because it cannot comprehend anything that concerns our spiritual identity. On the contrary, it will try to convince us, using the logic of the linear mind, that there is no other reality than the material one.
The Inner Self is not the Self Created on Earth
Many spiritual people are convinced that the ‘inner self’ is the moral and spiritually developed human self. This is not so. The so-called ‘higher self’ was not born on earth, it came from the spiritual realm to incarnate on earth and grow from here, to experiment with freedom and then ascend back to the spiritual realm.
I have written in another article why a spiritual being comes to the world of form. So, I will not go into much detail here. Let’s just say that in the plan of creation, God decides to create free beings capable of growing to the level of the Creator Itself. This is only possible if they are free.
That’s why all newly created spiritual beings incarnate in the world of form. Because only here is it possible to create an environment where it is possible to simulate going against God’s laws.
For this purpose, each being creates a temporary identity, born on earth, which it believes to be the real identity, so that the being can experience this and, by its own choice, return to the one Mind, which is the only real one with which it was created.
There is also another ‘reason’ for this: all life has a predisposition to be more, and we can only become more if we are free to see all the infinite possibilities that the limited identity of the ego cannot grasp. God does not want a creation of robots who can only do one thing and only one predictable thing.
The Creator wants a creation that can grow infinitely in consciousness as the Creator continues to transcend itself. And as Master Jesus said several times, “Only the man who came from heaven can return to heaven”. The ‘man’ who came from heaven is the spiritual identity or the ‘conscious you‘.
Having arrived here, we understand why it is essential, for all who follow the spiritual path, to separate the spiritual identity from the ego.
The importance of following the inner path
So, what does it mean to follow the ‘inner Path’? Let me begin by telling you what it is not: it is not going to church every Sunday, or saying prayers every day, or saying to God or some saint, “God, I promise I will be good, please give me this or that I want”; it is not spending hours every day or on certain days doing invocations (even those given to us by the Ascended Masters) without making any effort to look within ourselves and work within ourselves;
It is not about bargaining with God by lighting candles, giving money to the Church or to the poor, or not eating meat or this or that food that is considered impure, or physically scourging oneself, making the body suffer, and many other manifestations, all of which are external and none of which help us to look within and change ourselves.
Mother Mary says in her book, Your Life’s Plan for Abundance[1]«(…) [the belief]that you can buy your salvation, that you can make a bargain with God. This belief gives people the impression that they have to do something to compensate God for their sins, as if an infinite and all-powerful God needed some sacrifice from human beings».
This has many implications, I have touched on some of them in previous posts, but now I just want to remind you that God is not a punishing God, God loves every created being unconditionally. So, nothing we have done can block God’s love for us.
Back to our topic, following the inner path means to reconnect with our spiritual identity and to separate ourselves from the outer self; it means to look inside and to find, with the help of the Masters, the beliefs and decisions that were created by those beliefs that separated us from our true identity a long time ago.
It means working with us, paying attention to our reactions to others and to ourselves, and letting go, one by one, of all the reactionary selves we have created in the many lives we have already lived. It is a task of a lifetime for some, of several lifetimes for most.
As I said in a previous post, we are not left alone on Earth, we have our Teacher within – the Christ Self and the Ascended Masters of humanity, and at this time we even have something materially accessible in the form of teachings from the Masters, through messengers recognised by the Masters, the current one being Kim Michaels.
On this messenger’s websites, you can all have access to the teachings, you can buy the books, very affordable in e-book format, and regularly watch (in person or via webinar) the dictations with the Masters that, according to the Masters themselves, did not exist until relatively recently.
In this website, in the articles about the qualities of the 7 rays, I have commented on some of the insights I have had myself, commenting on the books that the Masters give us for our growth, and you are free to explore them as well.
But be aware of this: if you look at these books or any of the articles published on my website with just the intellectual mind, instead of using them as tools to help your inner growth, they will serve you for nothing, you need to approach the teachings with the innocent mind of one who wants to find something you don’t know yet, guided by intuition, not intellect.
If you only use the intellect, you will only put your ego into action. And that will only keep you in the same old prison that won’t let you see more than what you’ve seen before. Because that’s the outer path that cannot guarantee salvation
