A Closer Look at the Birth of Fallen Consciousness- 1
I touched on this subject in my last post, but in this one I want to take a closer look at the birth of the fallen consciousness. In fact, not all fallen beings fell for the same reason or in the same way.
The First Beings Fell from Hybris- Pride
I refer again to Lord Maitreya’s book to give an account of this:«(…) The original fall happened in the fourth sphere. This fall happened because certain angels, who had started out in the three higher spheres, decided to deliberately rebel against God’s purpose and design».[1]
What Lord Maitreya is telling us is that certain beings who originated in the 3rd sphere – angels in the 3rd sphere who chose to serve in the 4th sphere as archangels – rebelled against God’s plan for the universe, against God’s laws for the universe, against the freedom of the newly created beings.
We can also see that these first fallen beings were created in the three higher spheres – 1st, 2nd and 3rd – but when they came to the new sphere – the 4th – where they had a high rank, they fell.
We know that when a ‘sphere’ ascends, those ascending from that sphere create extensions of themselves to ‘descend’ into the newly created sphere. These ‘extensions’ will begin from a small point of consciousness, their own journey of learning.
Each ‘extension’ has an Alpha aspect – the I Am Presence – and an Omega point – the Conscious You, who will descend into the world of form. And we know now that both can enter in duality consciousness.
Master Maitreya gives us a hint of this possibility when He says:« As a side note, one might wonder whether masters can become prideful, but this is less of a risk because they create extensions of themselves that go into the new sphere and grow from there.» [2]
Master Maitreya also says that some ‘angels’ in one sphere will become the archangels of the next sphere if they have the attainment of these functions and choose to do so. This seems to be a reference to cycles of spiritual development: For example, when a being ascends from Earth, it reaches the highest level of consciousness possible on Earth, but when it ‘ascends’ it enters the first level of consciousness of the spiritual plane. But they begin on this new plane at the most basic point of development.
Why did these beings fall? Master Maitreya speaks of the greatest density of this new realm, where there were many ‘grey areas’ of shadow, making it possible to be captured by dual consciousness and its illusions without realising what they were doing.
But, in the case of the first fallen angels, they “deliberately rebelled against God’s purpose”, so they did it out of wishful ignorance. They fell because they had developed a great pride in their achievements and chose the fallen consciousness.
So what happened to these beings was that they began to believe that they knew better than God, that they had a better understanding of “how the world should work” than the Creator’s design for the universe. This was the state of mind that led to their fall.
From their point of view, they were right, and God was wrong.: « We now see what happens when co-creators and new angels (angels created specifically for a given sphere) fall. Some co-creators and some angels develop their outer skills to such a degree that they attain what they see as high positions compared to others. [3]
These beings were captured by the duality consciousness because they began to compare themselves with the other beings in the sphere they were in, and became proud of their abilities, and came to believe that they were superior to others, and that God should treat them as such, rewarding them for their good work with powerful positions and special privileges.
But although it was true that they were more advanced than others on that sphere, they forgot the maxim of service which says that “the most advanced of all is also the greatest servant of all”, because life is one and in creation there are no beings more important than others.
They also gave service to elevate themselves, but they had selfish motives, they wanted to be recognised as the more advanced beings on that sphere, as “gods” on that sphere. This is a main aspect of the fallen consciousness.
When the time came for the 4th sphere to ascend, these beings refused to change their ways and so they fell, because they didn’t want to accept that ‘they didn’t know better than God’, they also wanted to believe that they knew better. And they continued to fall in subsequent spheres until they reached the 7th, where we are now.
The Mental State of the Fallen Consciousness
The reason why all fallen beings fell when they chose to rebel against God’s laws is similar: they chose the path of separation, that is, the narcissistic focus on themselves, always comparing themselves to others to see if they can have ‘more than others’ in any situation.
The more a being separates itself from the Christ-mind, the more it creates a sense of identity that is separate from all others, to the extreme of seeing only its own best interests, as if there were no one else in the world but him or, at least as if he deserved all the privileges, even if that meant taking them away from everyone else.
These beings had a very deep sense of pride, believing that the duality consciousness they were using – based in duality consciousness- was superior to the one mind of Christ.
But although they could – at least one of them – begin to exist in the first created sphere, since Master Maitreya says that they came from the “previous spheres from the 4th”, they were not at the same level of the Creator’s Mind.
Creation, as we have learned from the Masters, began with the Creator choosing the principles that would be used through the Christ Mind to create all that was created, including those beings who rebelled against God’s laws for the universe.
They were in total hybris when they rebelled, and hybris is excessive and pointless pride accompanied by self-centred vanity. It is the state of mind that culminated in the fallen consciousness.
This was and is unfounded because, however close these beings were to the beginning of creation, they were not and are not at the same level of consciousness as the Creator, and by refusing to transcend themselves, they prevented themselves from expanding their sphere of consciousness, so that they were essentially ‘stuck in time’.
The refusal to change petrified these beings from a spiritual point of view, paralysing them in the petrification of their own blindness.
But let’s go back to the beliefs they accepted : «I know better than God how the world should be; I know that creation would be better if human beings were not free and we, that came to serve this planet, would take care of them, so they could be saved and didn’t face the possibility of becoming lost in the duality consciousness».
I am not going to elaborate on this, the Masters have already given us many teachings.
But what becomes clear is the lack of humility, the immense pride in judging that they would do better than God, even though they were in a non-ascended sphere, where they were supposedly serving the life of that sphere, they were not ascended beings in that sphere, and even if they were, they did not have the level of consciousness of the Creator.
These beings compared themselves to other beings on the sphere they were on at the time – the 4th – and concluded that if they were so much more advanced than they were, then since they were doing a good job of helping people on that sphere, they were doing even better than God.
Lor Maitreya agrees with the fact that until a sphere has ascended, it is always possible to ‘fall’ and reverse the normal spiritual flow from oneness with life to self-centred focus in separation and the fallen consciousness.
It is always theoretically possible for these beings to return to Oneness, but this would be seen as a terrible humiliation for them because they would have to start again from the bottom of life, and this is something that many of them cannot accept because they don’t want to give up the image of themselves that they created long ago in the Fall: the image that ‘they are gods’ and accepting nothing below that statement.
This is the state of mind that caused them to fall. But it is their choice to remain in it.
