Will and anti- Will
In this article I address the importance of the will and and reflect on the anti-will that paralyzes so many people today, leading them to prefer “not wanting anything”, a passive way of being in the world.
The Self That Opposes the Spiritual Will
I begin by quoting Mother Mary’s teaching: “You were not forced to come here. You came here as the result of a choice, and that choice was not made by some alien, remote being. It was made by you, the Conscious You, seeing itself as an extension of the greater Being that you are».[1]
The world in which we live came into being as an act of the Creator’s will, a decision in which the Creator chose to create.
Now there is an inextricable link between creativity and love, so that creation is in itself an act of love by which the Creator gives his creatures the opportunity to grow and become individualised expressions of divine consciousness, to become co-creators.
And as Mother Mary tells us, we came into the world of form out of love. Our spiritual being, the I am Presence, sent an extension of itself – the conscious you – because it couldn’t send its whole being. Both the I am Presence and the conscious you were created free.
The conscious you could seek growth in the spiritual realm, it was its choice to come to earth and grow out of the world of form to bring the light of God to fill the darkness of the newly created world.
However, at a certain point the ‘conscious you’ allowed itself to be captured by the duality consciousness and created the outer self and it was then that this outer self began to oppose the divine will of the spiritual identity.
This is because the outer self – the ego – is totally focused on the material plane and its desires are all directed towards gaining rewards in the material world, whereas the spiritual will is one with the will of God.
The divine will seeks to express a divine quality that is the unique gift given by the Creator, so that by becoming a co-creator in the world of form, it can bring this gift to all life, a gift that is unique in this world.
When the conscious you identified with the outer identity created on Earth, it lost awareness of this quality that is its gift to life and began to want what the material world could bring.
But in a world where force has become the dominant means of ‘gaining’ ‘possessions’ on Earth, the resistance that every being faces in fulfilling their desires has led many to feel powerless to realise their will on Earth.
The repeated resistance and the need to fight hard to achieve the ego’s desires on earth has led many to end up create a ‘non-will’, many creating a ‘non-will’, opting for a totally passive way of being in the world mixed with anger and rage because the Creator has, they think, forced them to live a life they never wanted to live.
This nihilism of the will has contaminated many people who are interested in spirituality but has ended up paralyzing them in a passivity in which they have stopped growing and achieving their spiritual goals.
Overcoming the Nihilism and Anger Against Life and God
The truth is that it was each individual who allowed themselves to fall into duality and made the decision to move away from the ‘will of God’. There was and is no divine punishment that forced people to live a life they did not choose, even if they have forgotten it.
With the help of the Masters we can reconnect our sense of identity with our original identity. There is no other way to achieve this after we have allowed ourselves to fall into the consciousness of duality. We will have to make a new choice, reversing the previous choice that took us away from the Divine Will, our true Will.
In Mother Mary’s words: «If you are to be ultimately successful in manifesting the abundant life, you need to reconnect to the higher will of your being, to a will that is beyond anything that could possibly be contained within your four lower bodies».[2]
The ego will always feel that God’s Will denies it what it desires because it can only see itself in opposition to others, including the Creator.
But when we begin the path of self-mastery and re-identify with the I am Presence, recognising that we – the conscious you – are the I am Presence in the material world, the feeling of powerlessness, frustration and anger at not achieving what we want in this world begins to fade and is replaced by another.
It begins to be replaced by a feeling of peace, of surrender to all the desires of the ego that are not our true desires, as we realise that God’s will is not opposed to ours.
The feeling of ‘surrender’ comes when we realise that we are not the self that feels frustrated at having ‘less’ material possessions, whatever they may be, than others, and at that moment we accept the divine will as our will.
And, paradoxically, this is the consciousness that can also help us – if it is not contrary to our divine plan – to achieve what we want on the material plane without having to use force.
Note that there is no contradiction here. Although, as spiritual beings, we wish to ‘lay up treasures in heaven’ and not conquer them on earth, as Master Jesus said when he walked the earth, the Conscious you incarnated on earth may also, like the I am Presence, have some desires related to life on the material plane.
But the true “abundance” that Mother Mary speaks of is not made up of earthly treasures and possessions, it is made up of the Light that fills the 4 material bodies as we purify them.
And it is when the beings living on Earth reach a high level of this Light that they begin to realize the presence of an anti-will force on Earth that seeks to prevent the Divine Light from filling the darkness that plagues the planet.
The Force of anti- will on Earth
I quote Mother Mary once again: «There is a force on this planet that is a force of anti-will, a force that actively opposes God’s will and the manifestation of God’s kingdom on earth»[3].
Now, these forces that have been hiding in the darkness since time immemorial do not want there to be beings that bring divine light to Earth, because with that light there will be no place for them to hide.
Furthermore, they will do everything in their power to prevent beings from bringing divine light to Earth. Therefore, one of the most important steps for those who wish to continue on the spiritual path is to become aware of the existence of these forces, which have been called ‘fallen beings‘.
Without being aware of these beings, it is virtually impossible to free oneself from the anti-will force that they continually project onto beings with a higher level of spiritual development.
The greater the number of beings who are aware of the existence of these anti-will forces and of people with high levels of consciousness, the easier it will be to expel them from the planet, an essential goal as we move towards a deeper manifestation of the Golden Age.
At the same time, the number of spiritual beings incarnated on Earth will increase, and they will cease to identify with the self that wants nothing or rebels because God does not give them the earthly benefits they desire, and they will manifest the consciousness of abundance that, as co-creators that they are, will manifest better living conditions on the material plane as well.
Instead of integrating the forces of anti-will and nihilism, they will truly be the heralds of a new collective consciousness that will demonstrate the divine will on earth, bringing the kingdom of God to the physical plane, a kingdom that “it is the Father’s pleasure to share with us”.
